Experience

Statistical Analyst

resulta

-I search through historical sports databases to find interesting trends, story angles, streaks and records, as requested by editors and writers from various sources (including select major sports websites). My daily work involves responding to data requests and validating data accuracy, but I am also responsible for developing a Django API to automate data-driven tasks.

Science Tutor

Self-Employed

I am responsible for supporting students academically with their science coursework (which has included high school/community college mathematics, International Baccalaureate physics and mathematics, and university-level physics, calculus and statistics). During sessions, I try to highlight intuitive problem-solving approaches and assist students with time management skills.

May 2015 - Present

Tutor

Sylvan Learning Center

On a part-time basis, I was responsible for supporting young clients in elementary and secondary school with mathematics, statistics and physics homework. While this role involved teaching multiple students in a variety of different topics simultaneously, I was also mindful of opportunities to mentor and offered suggestions to develop study skills.

Technical Instructor

Dalhousie University- College of Continuing Education

I was responsible for developing a new general applied physics course for the Naval Fleet School Atlantic at CFB Stadacona during a full-time DND contract with Dalhousie University's College of Continuing Education. During the contract, I created a master lesson plan, assignments, tests and examinations in accordance with International Maritime Organization standards.

Quality Assurance

Nova Scotia Health Authority

I assisted with a variety of regular quality assurance activities for the Nova Scotia Cancer Center (NSCC) under the direct supervision of qualified medical physicists. To assess the quality of dose delivery prior to a patient's radiation treatment at the NSCC, I ran radiation treatment plans using a variety of Varian linear accelerators. This involved verifying that the dose distribution measurements were acceptable by using software to compute the pertinent quantitative metrics. I also performed monthly maintenance tests (including energy calibration tests, safety protocol checks and mechanical accuracy measurements) to ensure machines were therapeutically stable.

Interests

I spend a large amount of my free time exploring the latest technology advancements in data science, either on my own or by engaging with the Halifax Data Science Meetup. Outside of my career as a statistical analyst and science tutor, I enjoy playing recreational co-ed soccer, exercising at the gym, listening to psychedelic/prog rock/soul music and participating in trivia nights at a local bar. During the winter months, I like to ski whenever I can get away!

When I'm at home, I'm either glued to the television watching Premier League Soccer, NFL or MLB games on DAZN or reading science fiction and fantasy books on the couch with my cat Bella. You also might find me in the kitchen making a fresh pot of coffee or tinkering around with my Aeropress!
